Wild One Cake Smash & Splash Session

Noah’s Woodland First Birthday Adventure

Turning one is such a magical milestone. It marks a full year of first smiles, first giggles, and so many little discoveries along the way. This Wild One themed cake smash and splash session was the perfect way to celebrate sweet baby Noah and his first birthday adventure.

When Noah arrived at the studio, he had just come straight from day care, and you could tell he was a little sleepy after a full day. Those long days can be a lot for little ones! But even with sleepy eyes at the beginning, Noah still gave us the sweetest smiles and did such a wonderful job throughout the entire session.

With earthy tones, soft greenery, rustic wood details, and a cozy teepee tent, the woodland camp background became the perfect setting for a tiny explorer celebrating his “Wild One.”

Carefully Styled Outfits for Your Baby

At the studio, there is a carefully curated collection of handmade and thoughtfully sourced baby outfits available for families to choose from. These outfits are selected to photograph beautifully and to match the style and color palette of the session themes.

For most cake smash sessions, one outfit is typically used throughout the entire session to keep things simple and comfortable for the baby. However, parents are always welcome to opt for an outfit change before the cake portion if they would like a slightly different look for the portraits and the cake smash.

For Noah’s session, we chose a lovely earthy toned outfit that paired beautifully with the woodland Wild One theme. Green tones also work especially well with this setup and give the whole scene a natural, adventurous feel. So, Mom and I decided to give Noah a quick outfit change before the cake to add a little variety to the gallery. Since Noah was very easygoing and didn’t mind outfit changes, it was simple to do and worked out perfectly for the session.

Step One: Clean Portraits Before the Cake

We always begin a cake smash session with clean portraits before the cake arrives. This allows us to capture those sweet expressions and beautiful details while everything is still neat.

Noah looked absolutely adorable sitting on the little wooden chair, holding a tiny bell toy and cuddling close to his teddy bear. His soft smile slowly woke up the whole room. Even though he started the session a bit sleepy, he warmed up quickly and gave us the most precious little expressions.

Behind him, the “Wild One” banner and teepee tent created the perfect woodland birthday backdrop.

These portraits are always so special — they capture the calm, genuine moments before the cake excitement begins.

Step Two: The Cake Smash

Next came the moment every baby is curious about… the cake!

A small cake topped with a delicate “One” topper was placed in front of Noah. At first, he carefully looked at it, gently touching the frosting with his tiny fingers as if trying to understand this delicious new discovery.

Soon curiosity turned into fun.

Little hands began exploring the cake, frosting was tasted, and Noah started enjoying the sweet experience. Even after a long day at day care, he still brought so much charm and personality to the session.

Cake smash sessions are never about being tidy — they’re about letting babies explore, play, and celebrate their first birthday in their own joyful way.

Step Three: Splash Time

After the cake fun (and plenty of frosting on those tiny hands!), it was time for the final and often most exciting part of the session — the splash bath.

Noah climbed into the little white tub filled with warm water, and suddenly his sleepy start was completely forgotten. The bubbles, splashes, and playful water moments brought out the biggest smiles.

Water splashed, bubbles floated through the air, and Noah happily played in the tub while the woodland set surrounded him like a tiny forest camp.

Splash time is always the perfect ending — babies love it, and parents love seeing those joyful giggles.

Celebrating One Year of Noah

Even though Noah started the session a little sleepy after his day at day care, he truly did amazing. Sessions like this remind us that babies don’t have to be perfect performers — the most meaningful photos come from real moments, real expressions, and real personality.

Noah’s Wild One adventure was filled with sweet smiles, messy cake fun, and joyful splashes - the perfect way to celebrate turning one.
