When to Book a 100 Days Baby Session? DFW 100 Days Photography Guide for New Parents

The 100-day baby session is a beautiful milestone celebrated by many families, especially within Eastern traditions. But one of the most common questions I receive is:

Does the session have to be exactly on the 100th day?

The short answer is — not necessarily.

Does the 100 Days Session Have to Be Exactly on Day 100?

While the tradition celebrates a baby’s 100th day of life, the photography session does not need to fall exactly on that date.

In fact, many families find that scheduling the session between 110–120 days (or even slightly older) works wonderfully. At this stage, babies often:

• Have stronger head control
• Show more expressive smiles
• Make better eye contact
• Stay awake longer

If you already completed a newborn session or one-month session, you may consider postponing the next session slightly to capture more development and variety.

Popular Baby Photography Milestones

Here’s a helpful overview of common baby sessions:

👶 Newborn Session (7–16 days)

Classic posed newborn portraits during the sleepy stage.

🌿 One Month Session

Either a delayed newborn session or a lifestyle family session.

🌸 100 Days Session

Celebrating baby’s strength, growth, and cultural tradition.

🪑 Sitter Session (6–8 months)

When baby can sit independently or with light support — either milestone portrait or lifestyle family session.

🎂 One Year Session

First birthday cake smash and splash, milestone portrait session, or lifestyle family session.

Each stage captures something different and meaningful.

Eastern Tradition and the 100 Days Celebration

In many Eastern cultures, the 100-day milestone symbolizes health, strength, and blessings for the baby’s future. It’s a deeply meaningful celebration for families and often includes traditional outfits, heirlooms, and symbolic items.

Because of this, timing sometimes becomes flexible to accommodate family gatherings or baby’s readiness.

What Type of Session Is Best for a 100 Days Baby?

If You Prefer to Shoot Closer to 100 Days (Around 90–105 Days)

I would recommend a lifestyle family session.

At this stage, babies are still developing their physical skills, so being in parents’ arms creates:

• More natural expressions
• Better eye contact
• More comfort
• Emotional connection

This option works beautifully if baby is not yet sitting.

If You Can Wait a Bit Longer (110–120 Days or More)

Especially when already shoot newborn or other younger stages, You may choose between:

Milestone Portrait Session
Lifestyle Family Session

Milestone portrait sessions are ideal for babies who can sit independently or with light support, as this stage allows for much more variety in posing and expression. It’s truly one of the sweetest and most expressive milestones to capture.

If your baby is not yet sitting but can confidently lift and support their head during tummy time, we can still create beautiful images. However, if your session date approaches and your baby is only comfortable lying down and is not yet able to support their head well, we are always happy to reschedule to a later date to ensure the best results.

Please keep in mind that every child develops at their own pace. Some babies may physically be able to lift their head but simply don’t enjoy tummy time and may show unhappy expressions (my own child was like that 😊).

So, When Should You Book a 100 Days Session?

There is no “perfect” date — the best timing is when your baby feels comfortable and expressive. The goal is not simply to mark a number, but to beautifully capture your baby’s growth and personality.

And even if your baby isn’t performing exactly as you imagined during the session, that’s completely okay. Every child develops at their own pace, and those little in-between moments are often the most genuine and meaningful to preserve.

So trust your heart, choose a date that feels right for your family, and let’s create something beautiful to remember this special season of life.
